BUKU SARKAR

BUKU SARKAR

I am a fiction writer and photographer from Calcutta and New York. My work has been featured in journals like the New York Review of Books and the New York Times Lens Blog and exhibited at places like the International Center of Photography, Art Basel Miami, and other venues around the world.

In 2023, Fall Line Press published my first photo book, Photowali Didi, a project born from a five-year relationship with the residents of a nearby slum — a collaboration that deeply shaped my work and perspective. My first book of fiction, Not Quite A Disaster After All, is also out in the world.

I currently teach part-time at International Center of Photography, and my first poetry collection is forthcoming in Fall 2025. Right now, I'm working on two projects close to my heart: Women and Bodies and Gender and Bodies in Art.
