EMMA VARGA

I am a photographic artist working between Budapest and London, exploring the intersections of photography, performance, and material experimentation. After completing a BA in Fine Art Photography at Budapest Metropolitan University, I am currently pursuing an MA in Art and Science at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London.

Growing up in Hungary, I was surrounded by systems of scientific thinking that sought to explain and classify the world. While I initially turned to art as an alternative, my practice has evolved into a space where art and science converge. Working with photography as a medium of construction rather than documentation, I create images that examine the body, power, vulnerability, and the unstable boundaries between human and non-human. Through material processes, microscopy, decay, and intervention, I investigate how systems of knowledge shape our understanding of existence. Rather than offering certainty, my work embraces instability, inviting viewers to question assumptions about identity, perception, and the structures that govern contemporary life.
