JING WEI
I am a documentary photographer and visual storyteller whose work examines the relationships between people, culture and everyday life. For more than a decade, I have photographed moments that might otherwise go unnoticed, focusing on resilience, dignity and the experiences that shape ordinary lives. I approach the camera not only as a tool of observation, but as a way of listening and building connections across cultures.
Born and raised in Beijing, I am now based in Minnesota, United States. Although photography is not my full-time profession, it has remained a lifelong commitment. My work moves between urban and rural settings, documenting stories of identity, tradition, labour and belonging.
My photography has been featured on National Geographic Your Shot, where an image from Larung Gar Buddhist Academy was selected as Photo of the Day. My work has also been exhibited at the University of Minnesota’s Coffman Memorial Union.
I am currently pursuing a graduate degree in Arts and Cultural Leadership at the University of Minnesota, studying how the arts can support social impact, inclusion and intercultural dialogue. My continuing projects examine Beijing’s changing urban landscape and the Buddhist community of Larung Gar, extending my interest in how people understand and sustain their relationships with place.
