To unbecome describes a threshold rather than a loss, a space between presence and absence that Kalliope Amorphous returns to often in her thinking about the self. Reflection, distortion, repetition, and entropy function in her work as both subject and tool, making images that resist fixed representation in favor of something she describes as fluid and fragmented, open to ongoing interpretation rather than settled into a single meaning.

Kalliope creates her self-portraits entirely in camera using a hand-built reflective chamber constructed from several types of reflective polyester film. The process is physical and optical. Distortion occurs before the photograph is fixed, so the final image records a real encounter between body, reflection, light and material.

“Women have historically been expected to be beautiful in front of a camera. The face is supposed to remain pleasing and legible. Even when a portrait is intended to be strong or complex, there can still be that underlying expectation that the woman stays visually desirable. I wanted to see what happened if I removed that obligation without removing the actual femininity itself.”

“Transparent is the fifth and final project in a series exploring the stages of grief. This final chapter represents acceptance. Over six months, I carefully removed my father from our family photographs. I then transformed these altered images into lenticular prints that change as you move. The shifting images reflect not only that he is no longer with us, but also how memories can change over time.”

There are photographs we remember so clearly they begin to replace the moments they were meant to preserve. In Transparent, William Josephs Radford examines that uncertain space between memory, grief and the family archive. After his father’s death, William discovered how rarely he appeared in thousands of family photographs. He began removing him from selected images, reconstructing the spaces behind his figure as though he had never been there. The resulting work questions photography as evidence, asking how images shape what we remember, what they leave out, and how absence can become as powerful as presence itself.

“For me, the arrival of the monsoon in Kolkata is something I can almost feel before the rain actually begins. The light changes first. The sky becomes darker and softer, the air feels heavier, and there is a particular stillness in the streets, as if the city is waiting for something to happen.”

Kolkata Monsoon is a study of return, observation, and change. Each year, Abir Choudhury goes back into the rain to photograph how Kolkata is altered by water and how people continue within it. Streets become harder to cross, routines are interrupted, work is affected, and familiar places shift in appearance and use. What began as separate photographs has become a long-term record of the city under pressure. The project looks closely at the unequal effects of the monsoon, but it also leaves room for humor, play, and connection. As the seasons become less predictable, the work has taken on a broader environmental meaning.

There is a mountainside in eastern Tibet, its slopes covered by thousands of small dwellings in deep red, stacked so densely that, from a distance, they read less as architecture than as texture, like fish scales forming a second skin over the land. This is Larung Gar, one of the largest Tibetan Buddhist academies in the world. Ten years after first encountering Larung Gar, documentary photographer Jing Wei returns to a changed mountain, tracing the continuity of faith, memory and the lives sustained within it.

Serhii Fett is a Ukrainian photographer based in Germany whose practice examines the relationship between constructed reality and psychological experience. Working with staged figures, concealed faces, ordinary objects, and controlled spatial arrangements, he investigates how identity and presence can be communicated beyond direct recognition. The body functions as a conceptual structure through which questions of memory, alienation, and absence are explored, while interiors, landscapes, and architectural elements operate as active components in the production of meaning. Serhii’s work is defined by a tension between visual precision and interpretive openness, allowing each photograph to sustain ambiguity without relinquishing conceptual coherence.

Visual artist Cleopatra Joint begins with the facts of a room: a bed, a desk, a wardrobe, a window, a few square metres. A temporary space in a boarding school in Bari becomes the setting for a young woman caught between study, modeling, love, uncertainty, and the wish to become someone closer to herself.

The young woman, Regina, left Rome years ago and now lives in Bari, dreaming of leaving university behind to make modeling her career. In this project, Cleopatra photographs the ordinary facts of Regina’s afternoon and allows the emotional weight of the situation to surface slowly.

Some neighborhoods are not simply lived in. They are inherited through stories, families, work, grief, habit, and the memories that continue to shape them. Virginia Cassano enters Villaggio Piaggio from a position of personal inheritance, as the daughter of a factory worker who died too soon. Through this intimate connection, she examines how labor and collective memory remain embedded in the life of a place. The project unfolds in Pontedera, the Tuscan town that adopted Virginia ten years ago. Within it sits Villaggio Piaggio, a neighbourhood built in 1934 for the workers of the Piaggio factory and still physically present yet suspended within its own history.
